Strengthening the National SAR Program
Develop a multijurisdictional search and rescue policy statement for the National SAR Program
- Engage jurisdictions in developing a policy framework for SAR
- Review and confirm SAR partners commitment to the National SAR Program
- Review and solidify the GSAR governance structure and framework
Supporting Volunteers
Improve the capability, assure the sustainability and reduce the risk for SAR volunteers
- Protect volunteers by responsible jurisdictions taking action to close insurance and liability gaps
- Leverage existing and new federal and provincial/ territorial policies to support volunteers
- Raise public awareness and financial support for SAR volunteers
Delivering Public Education
Utilize broad public awareness and targeted outreach to reduce the frequency and severity of SAR incidents
- Utilize evidence based approach (subject, activity and location) to target outreach
- Deliver public education activities focused on key messages and consistent approach
Integrating Science and Technology
Leverage information sharing and science and technology to reduce search time and increase survivability
- Focus on SAR data to support SAR program planning, risk analysis, response effectiveness and system efficiencies
- Develop and maintain a science and technology action plan to anticipate and integrate new and emerging technologies into the SAR system
Focusing on Northern and Remote SAR
Monitor the capacity to prevent and respond to SAR incidents in the North
- Establish mutual assistance/agreements
- Leverage existing infrastructure and assets as well as development opportunities
